Database type none joomla hosting

Hi guys, I will start by saying I am completely green when it comes to Joomla and still very green when it comes to Apache and PHP - that's why I'm here.

I'll start by saying I'm trying to install a Joomla site on my home computer to mess around with - one of my fiancee's friends wants to look into it for her family's business and I'm helping them with it. I would just write them a site using HTML5 as I am familiar with that but they want to be able to edit it themselves after having issues with their current web design & hosting people.

Database type none joomla hosting my home computer

My system is running Windows 7 (not ideal for a web server, I know, but it's all I've got) with Apache, PHP and MySQL installed. Apache and PHP seems to be working 100%, however when I try to do the web installation for Joomla (via localhost) it will not allow me to select a database type - the only option is none.

I have enabled the mysqli extension via the php.ini config file by removing the comment tag on the extension=php_mysqli.dll file. I have added the \php and php\ext directories to my system path and it still won't show up (changing it back to \Windows\System32 now to test it though).

I have a single connection set up in MySQL with an empty/no database attached, as far as I know Joomla fills that out?

If I try to click next after filling out the rest of the form with the relevant info, it gives the following error message:
Could not connect to the database. Connector returned number: The MySQL adapter mysqli is not available.

This indicates to me that the mysqli extension isn't working. Any ideas or things that I'm missing?

Thanks in advance!
